This month we are fortunate to learn “All About Bluebirds” from Bob Franz, founding member of the Southern California Bluebird Club. Who doesn’t want to learn how to attract these adorable visitors to our gardens! Bob’s organization assists the local Western Bluebird population by maintaining and monitoring nest boxes for the birds as their natural habitats decline, and non-native bird species compete for their natural nesting sites. If we’re lucky, Bob will even bring some Bluebird Boxes to our meeting for purchase!!! The club was featured on a 2007 episode of Huell Howser which you can view here: https://blogs.chapman.edu/huell-howser-archives/2007/09/29/bluebirds-californias-green-128/. We plan to hold a raffle, so bring some cash! Donations for cuttings/seed table needed! Doors open at 9am, Norman P. Murray Center, Mission Viejo. Visitors are always welcome!
Everyone needs a few roses in their garden!! Not one is better suited than Tom Cooney, Master Rosarian and long-time member of the Orange County Rose Society, to give us an introduction to growing these beautiful plants! Tom is a Master Rosarian and Horticulture Judge for the American Rose Society (ARS). Tom was named the Outstanding Consulting Rosarian in 2017 for the Pacific Southwest District of the American Rose Society. Tom and his wife Miriam cultivate a garden of over 300 roses in Aliso Viejo. We plan to hold a raffle, so bring some cash! Donations for cuttings/seed table needed! Doors open at 9am, Norman P. Murray Center, Mission Viejo. Visitors are always welcome!
We will be meeting at the Norman P. Murray Center on Friday, May 20, 2022, beginning at 9am. Our meeting will include signups for our June luncheon, raffle, cuttings table, horticulture presentation and refreshments.
Our special speaker this month will be Teresa Byington. Teresa Byington loves to dig in the dirt and gets plenty of opportunities to do just that as she cares for her large cottage garden which consists of about 150 roses. She is an active member of the American Rose Society and Indianapolis Rose Society. Teresa will be presenting remotely via GoToMeeting. Teresa’s garden, Bloom Thyme Cottage Garden, is a large cottage garden that weaves together her love of roses - from the oldest to the most modern shrubs and their garden companions. Roses alongside annuals, herbs, shrubs, trees, perennials, and veggies fill this garden. Teresa's garden was recently featured in Garden Gate Magazine's January edition!
